FIBR Partnerships

As a small non-profit organization, FIBR has found over the years that Partnerships not only create great relations among other groups and organizations, but help FIBR achieve many goals and provide programs that otherwise would not be possible. In fact, at our 2006 A Taste of FIBR event we celebrated “A Decade of Partnerships”.

FIBR Partners Include:

The FIBR Training Council: A volunteer Corp of Food Industry Professionals representing Academia, Industry, Government Agencies and Consultants. The FIBR Training Council guides the direction of the Food Safety with FIBR Training Institute that has been providing food safety training in Good Manufacturing Practices, Sanitation Control Procedures and Hazardous Analysis Critical Control Points in English since 2000. In 2006 we introduced these courses in Spanish and a HACCP Roundtable – a half-day retreat focusing on helping those with developed company HACCP plans. Future plans for the Training Institute include a curriculum on Passing Third Party Audits. The FIBR Training Council is also responsible for “Good Manufacturing Practices in Food Processing” manual, the first-ever tri-lingual (English, Spanish and Chinese) manual of it's kind.

The Community Development Technologies Center: A non-profit training, applied research and technical assistance organization Specializing in Community Economic Development. Through CDTech, FIBR has provided its members with useful economic data, research and worker-related programs.

The Regional Wholesale Food Processors Committee: A Co-operative effort between FIBR and the Environmental Health Departments of Los Angeles, Orange, San Bernardino and San Diego Counties and the City of Vernon. Most recently RWFPC produced the Southern California Wholesale Food Facility Construction Guide.

State and Federal Government Partners: FIBR also works closely with the California Department of Health Services, CalOsha, U.S. FDA and U.S.D.A. to keep our members up-to-date on the latest regulatory changes, to build relationships with our members and the Southern California Food Processing Industry. Through sharing information and resources with these agencies, FIBR brings its members trainings and business related information to help them stay competitive.

2007 Agribusiness Project: The latest of FIBR efforts is working to develop a food safety program for Agribusinesses in Central California. FIBR was invited by Southern California Edison to explore providing this service. Partners in this effort include the California Food and Agricultural Department, the U.S. FDA, United Agribusiness League and the California League of Food Processors.

Educational Partnerships:

FIBR also works through educational institutions to help develop curriculum and inspire the future workers of the food processing industry. With Chapman University, we have arranged a 10% discount for FIBR members for their short courses in food sciences. With Los Angeles Trade Tech College, the FIBR Advisory Committee helps to advise and guide food processing related curriculums, and on the high school level, FIBR conducts a Speaker Series at Dorsey Culinary Arts, where FIBR members take their stories and experiences into the classroom. Manufacturers, Restaurant owners and Chefs, Health Inspectors, Scientist and Higher Education Providers represent some of the subjects presented in the series.
