Welcome back.
Haven't seen you since 2009. We're already well into our first quarter of 2010. And the cutbacks continue with WalMart cutting 12,000 from their staff in today's news and on Thursday President Obama will deliver his State of the Union address. All old news by the time you're reading the FIBR letter.
Back to the Basics is my message for this quarter. When a Quarter was also 25 cents we used to say: "Watch your pennies and the dollars will take care of themselves." Today, we say: "Watch your nickels and dimes and the dollars will take care of themselves."
PAY ATTENTION THINK FOCUS
If you want to remember someone's name when you're introduced--pay attention. Most of the time we've forgotten their names as soon as we walk away. I remember someone's name when I meet them because I write their name in my Daytimer (dinosaur that I am) because it's important to me that I pay attention in that moment of making contact. Or, I shake their hand, look them in the eye, repeat their name and still can't always remember their name. What's wrong? Nothing, just remember to pay attention when it matters.
THINK was a one word sign created by the legendary Thomas Watson of IBM in the days when it was called "Big Blue." Do you THINK. Think tank originated waaay back in 1905 as a nick name for your brain. Pardon my platitude, but when you're in a hole...you THINK...and then you stop digging and THINK of way out of that hole. You are where you are because you want to be there. THINK.
Every successful person I ever went to for advice and counseling seemed to tell me to FOCUS. I am still attempting to focus. I know my goals, Yet, I can't seem to achieve them? FOCUS. That one word is the solution to all my problems in not reaching my goals. FOCUS. You want success? Stop focusing on your goals! Start focusing on helping others achieve and beat their goals! Mentor Up. Mentor Up. Discover who needs your help in your universe and focus on helping them. Meet new people or reacquaint yourself with those people who you can assist you in focusing on your leadership skills and generosity. Be a mentor to an apt learner. They are so appreciative and you'll focus on your goals together.
